Stopping Stray Dog Abuse

“Dogs are a man’s best friend” is one of the most common sayings. It is due to the loyalty, love and companionship they show to human beings.

A country’s exercise of moral values can be judged by the way they treat animals. In Pakistan, it is very common to throw a rock at a stray dog to scare it off. Children in villages and even in cities can be seen torturing stray animals for dun. Dogs living in societies are shot to death by the security guards due to the fear that they might bite a resident.

Another incident was reported in Karachi where dogs were tied up and thrown into a dumpster. A common fear of rabies carried by dogs also leads to this cruelty. Due to the trauma that the stray dogs go through, they indulge the fear of getting injured or shot to death.

This leads to dogs by the side of roads barking at people or cars passing by to protect themselves. A safe sterilization drive is a must to save strays from the cruelty they face everyday. Proper animal rights need to be implemented by the government to provide them with a safe environment.
